Marrakech, Sahara & High Atlas

We travel in style by 4x4 and stay in comfortable riads and Kasbah-style hotels on this tour of Southern Morocco’s highlights.

 

After exploring the ancient medina of Marrakech we stay near the World Heritage Ksar at Ait Benhaddou; traverse the Draa Valley and discover Morocco’s great Sahara sand sea by camel and 4x4.

 

Finally a couple of days are spent walking and experiencing Berber village life in the High Atlas Mountains.

Highlights of Marrakech, Djemma El Fna
ITINERARY
​

Day 1 – Arrive Marrakech
Tour starts in Marrakech with an evening visit to the highly animated Djemaa el Fna square, scene of acrobats, musicians and storytellers.


Day 2 – Discover Marrakech
A guided walking tour of Marrakech medina reveals Djemaa el Fna, Koutoubia, the historic Ben Youssef area and souks. Afterwards there’s time for independent sightseeing, or an optional caleche ride, cooking course or spa.

Day 3 – Atlas to Ait Benhaddou​

A winding route ascends the Tizi n’Tichka pass in the High Atlas Mountains as we journey to Telouet Kasbah and the World Heritage Ksar of Ait Benhaddou.


Day 4 – Along the Draa Valley to the Sahara
At Ouarzazate we see Taourirt Kasbah. Next we cross the volcanic Jebel Saghro and traverse the beautiful Draa Valley to sleep in the Mhamid area for 2 nights in a comfortable Kasbah-style abode. Optional sunset camel ride.


Day 5 – In the Sahara
An adventurous day trip following sand tracks to Morocco’s greatest expanse of dunes at Erg Chegaga (return to the comfort of your hotel in the late afternoon).


Day 6 – Across the Anti-Atlas to Taroudant
Today we see ever-changing landscapes on a crossing of the Anti-Atlas Mountains and Souss Valley. Arriving at Taroudant there is time to explore the ancient walled medina.

Day 7 – To High Atlas Mountains
We enjoy a dramatic drive up to the Tizi n’Test pass then pause at the ruined mosque of Tinmal and pretty village of Ouirgane. Our base for 2 nights is Kasbah Africa in the tranquil Azzaden Valley.


Day 8 – Walk, mule trek or relax in the High Atlas
Accompanied by an experienced Berber mountain guide choose a trail to suit your ability or perhaps ride a mule to a nearby Berber village for views of North Africa’s highest peak, Jebel Toubkal.

Day 9 – Tour ends in Marrakech
Transfer directly back to Marrakech where tour ends.
