Imperial

Cities & Sahara

Marrakech, Fez, Dunes & Kasbahs
11 days / 10 nights from £1299 pp

Travelling by 4x4 from Marrakech this easy-paced circuit combines three of Morocco’s famous Imperial Cities with the spectacular scenery of southern Morocco.

We head north to Fez to spend a couple of days touring the old and new cities plus Roman Volubilis and Meknes.

Next we drive south through the Atlas to reach the golden sands of the Sahara at Erg Chebbi. Our final days are spent exploring Todra and Dades Gorge.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Arrive Marrakech
Tour starts in Marrakech with an evening visit to the highly animated Djemaa el Fna square, scene of acrobats, musicians and storytellers.

Day 2 – Discover Marrakech
A guided walking tour of Marrakech medina reveals Djemaa el Fna, Koutoubia, the historic Ben Youssef area and souks. Afterwards there’s time for independent sightseeing, or an optional caleche ride, cooking course or spa.

Day 3 – To Fez via Khenifra
Today experience beautiful views of ever-changing mountain scenery as we avoid motorways and take the longer Atlas route to Fez.

Day 4 – Full day tour of Fez
On a guided tour we’ll see the South Borj, Royal Palace and Mellah in Fez el Jedid, and the vast old walled city and tanneries of Fez el Bali.

Day 5 – Tour Volubilis & Meknes
Visit the holy town of Moulay Idriss, the impressive Roman ruins at Volubilis and Imperial City of Meknes on a day trip from Fez.

Day 6 – South to the Sahara
After a long but very scenic journey south through the Middle Atlas we reach Erfoud at the fringe of Morocco’s Sahara desert.

Day 7 – Sahara Adventure
Camel trek or 4x4 adventure to the big dunes at Erg Chebbi with option to sleep under the stars in a comfortable desert camp.

Day 8 – Valley of 1000 Kasbahs
Witness the contorted volcanic peaks of the Jebel Saghro as we traverse the Valley of 1000 Kasbahs to reach Dades Gorge.

Day 9 – Explore Dades by 4x4
The palm-filled Dades region offers many off-beat trails – ideal for discovery in our robust 4x4. Alternatively, enjoy a relaxing day.

Day 10 – To Marrakech via High Atlas
We visit the spectacular Ksar of Ait Benhaddou and Telouet Kasbah before descending the High Atlas to arrive back at Marrakech.

Day 11 – Tour ends in Marrakech
