OURIKA VALLEY
Great for a day trip just 30 km from Marrakech - one of the most beautiful and best preserved valleys in Morocco.
Ourika Valley - Foothills of the Atlas
Just 30 km from the Imperial City of Marrakech, and spreading between the first foothills of the Atlas Mountains, the Ourika Valley is one of the most beautiful and best preserved valleys in Morocco. With tiny villages clinging to the steep hillsides, waterfalls and rocky landscapes merging with the ubiquitous desert, this is a wild and enticing combination on the edge of the Western Atlas.
The valley holds a number of attractions - take your pick of spices from the Ourika Safranière or scents at the bio-aromatic gardens of the Ourika. The striking gardens of Timalizene, whose architecture was designed by Rémi Aubrée, are of interest. For many, visiting typical Berber houses is the real highlight - particularly at the beautiful village of Setti Fatma - famous for its seven waterfalls
Along the valley the banks of the Ourika River are generously shaded by poplar trees and other weeping willows. The village of Arhbalou is very attractive and has a multitude of small restaurants situated along the water's edge. A picnic lunch at Arhbalou Cascades or at the edge of the Ourika River is popular with locals and tourists alike.
