From Marrakech to the Tizi n’Test Pass, Tin Mal Mosque and Ouirgane by 4WDThe mountain road leading south from Marrakech to Taroudant and beyond reaches a high point of 2,092m at the Tizi n’Test Pass and is one of the most spectacular drives in Morocco. Weaving your way up through the High Atlas and back down again you’ll enjoy breathtaking views from numerous points along the way. There’s also time for some interesting stops during this trip including Asni, Tin Mal Mosque and the pretty town of Ouirgane. Allowing you the flexibility to stop where and when you want en route, accompanied by your own personal local guide and driver, this adventurous day trip will take you from the walls of the ‘Red City’ up to the Tizi n’Test Pass in the High Atlas, then back down again. If you enjoy the adrenaline rush of driving along narrow, twisting, mountain roads with a backdrop of some the best scenery in Morocco, this trip should suit you. En route to the Atlas you’ll make a stop at the busy little town of Asni which is a buzz of activity as local Berbers ply to sell their produce and goods. At Tin Mal it’s definitely worth a stop to see the Almohad-era mosque, built in 1156 in honour of the dynasty’s ‘founding father’. It is one of the few mosques open to non-Muslims, and a guided tour will reveal beautiful decorated archways. After enjoying the views over the Souss plain from Tizi n’Test you’ll enjoy a different perspective of the mountains, its valleys and Berber villages as you descend to Ouirgane, a pretty Atlas town with a reservoir. Lunch is a local affair, taken in a typical Berber village house, enjoying a home-cooked three course meal of Moroccan salad, couscous with lamb or perhaps a tasty vegetable tagine, fresh seasonal fruits and tea. After lunch you have time to discover more of the picturesque Ouirgane Valley. There are lots of opportunities for taking photos on this trip so don’t forget your camera! Our High Atlas Day Trip to Tizi'n'Test is available every day throughout the year (subject to availability). This tour is organised on a private basis with a minimum of 2 people enjoying a personal experience. |
